TODAY: HURRICANE WARNING, TORNADO WATCH. Hurricane Irene will cross Long Island with maximum winds of 40 to 60 mph with some gusts near 75mph. Landfall between 7 and 9 AM. Rainfall totals 6 to 10 inches western Long Island to 1 to 3 inches over the East End. Major coastal flooding is expected during the morning high tide and heavy rain will cause extensive urban flooding. Rain will tapers to showers by evening and winds will drop to a around 15 to 25 by 6pm. Daytime highs 73 to 78.
